Happy Snouts, a vibrant pet hotel located in the heart of Porto, Portugal, sought assistance to address a significant challenge. Their staff found themselves inundated with a high volume of calls from concerned and curious pet owners eager to check on their beloved pets.
This influx of calls was not only disrupting the staff's workflow but also detracting from their primary responsibility of caring for the pets.
The absence of an online presence for the hotel meant that pet owners had limited ways to address their concerns, resulting in frequent phone calls - so the solution was to build an app to resolve this major issue.
Through interviews and research, we identified a lot of different owner needs, from last-minute bookings to routine holiday arrangements, occasional checks on their pets' well-being, and even after-hours check-out requests. In response, the app offers new features, crafted to adress these needs and alleviate the burden on both staff and pet owners.
From our research, we learned that most folks don't like sharing lots of personal info right away. Sometimes they're in a hurry or don't have their documents handy.
To accommodate this preference, we focused on ensuring that the initial encounter with the app was intuitive and uncomplicated. We prioritized customization options, allowing users to tailor their experience to their comfort level while maintaining a sense of ease and efficiency throughout the onboarding journey.
Booking a stay or any other service has never been simpler! Prior to the app's introduction, all bookings were handled solely through email, with follow-ups conducted via phone calls. As mentioned earlier, this reliance on phone calls presented the primary challenge for Happy Snouts.
In order to meet the diverse needs of our clients, we have introduced an enhanced system for the services offered by the hotel: Basic, Standard, and Premium packages. These three options cater to varying levels of requirements, ranging from essential security to a fully inclusive premium experience.
For the most curious of pet owners, the Premium Pack offers an ideal solution. This comprehensive package not only includes 24-hour chat support with the pet carer but also provides access to live video and audio feeds of the pets, no matter where they are.
This offering stems from our discovery that owners are often willing to pay a bit extra for the reassurance of being able to check on their beloved animals at any time, hassle-free.
During our research for this project, we discovered a common complaint: pet owners faced the inconvenience of having to pay for an extra night if they couldn't pick up their pets during the staff's working hours. This proved to be a significant advantage, as there was a lack of alternatives in the market.
Recognizing this gap, we developed the Auto Check-Out service. This paid feature allows pet owners to retrieve their animals after hours by placing them in designated check-out boxes. Access to these boxes is granted only through a generated QR code, which becomes available on the owner's profile when it's time for activation.
